Stars' Funniest 'SNL' Moments: From Alec Baldwin to Cameron Diaz

Live from New York, it’s the funniest celebs Saturday Night Live can find!

Alec Baldwin, Cameron Diaz and more stars have had some of the most memorable moments on the longtime comedy show — and haven’t been afraid to get a little weird with it. In recent seasons, Baldwin has gained widespread praise for his spot-on impression of President Donald Trump. While the recurring political parody has been a consistent hit with fans, the It’s Complicated star has had his reservations about the comedic bit.

“I can’t imagine I would do it again,” Baldwin told USA Today of the impression in June 2019. “I just can’t. They should find somebody who wants to do it. They’re all my dear friends and I love going there, but the other thing is that I’m going to go to work this fall in a way I haven’t done in a while. … SNL just crushes my weekends, and now weekends are going to become much more precious to me because that’s time with my kids.”

Three months later, he doubled down on his distaste for putting a silly spin on the controversial political figure. “I don’t want to do it anymore,” he told SNL alum Kevin Nealon during an episode of his YouTube series, Hiking With Kevin. “It’s not doing anything good or bad for [Trump]. … When I’m there, I feel funny. Because every minute I’m doing this is time that gets taken away from the cast.”

Diaz, for her part, has become a holiday season staple at the show since appearing in the November 2014 sketch, “Back Home Ballers.” One year after the song went viral, SNL writers Sarah Schneider and Chris Kelly gave fans insight into the idea behind the Bad Teacher star’s hilarious hit.

“It is a little like putting all of your eggs in one basket,” Kelly said of filming the skit with a heavy hitter like Diaz.

Alec Baldwin

The 30 Rock alum gained critical acclaim for his portrayal of President Donald Trump, even earning an Emmy Award for the recurring character in 2017 and another Emmy nomination the next year. Despite being a fan-favorite parody, Baldwin revealed in September 2019 that he wasn't looking forward to bringing his impression back to SNL. "I don't think it's doing anything. It's not doing anything good or bad for [Trump]," he said on Kevin Nealon's YouTube series, Hiking with Kevin.

Drake

The "Hotling Bling" rapper has appeared on the late-night variety show several times over the years — and has totally nailed each and every performance. In January 2014, the Canadian teamed up with Aidy Bryant, Vanessa Bayer and more of the funniest females of SNL. Drake took on the role of the handsome dad at the girls' "Awkward Slumber Party" and had everybody's "body quakin.'"

NBC
Rihanna

Although RiRi has yet to host an episode, she lent her unique voice to a special digital short during her stint as musical guest on Dec. 5, 2009. Rihanna and her featured artist “Shy Ronnie” (aka Andy Samberg as an awkward, muttering redhead) rap for a classroom of middle schoolers — the tune can’t be missed!

Akon

While the days of Andy Samberg’s iconic digital shorts are long gone, his collaboration with hip-hop artist Akon will live on. While Samberg and the rest of his group The Lonely Island rapped the hilariously awkward verses, Akon lent his vocal stylings to the chorus of the virgin-anthem “I Just Had Sex,” which premiered on SNL Dec. 18, 2010.

Edward Norton

Ed Norton is no stranger to a quirky Wes Anderson movie — the actor is a fixture in the director’s films. So it was especially exciting to see him lampoon the director’s distinct style as a spot-on Owen Wilson in a highly produced sketch for SNL on Oct. 26, 2014 — a faux horror film by the man behind Oscar nominated The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Cameron Diaz

We have Cameron Diaz to thank for the new Thanksgiving anthem! In this Nov. 22, 2014 digital short, Diaz joined the ladies of SNL for a music video ode to coming home for the holidays called “Back Home Ballers.” The sketch left Us wondering — why do our moms have all those bowls?!

Blake Shelton

The country crooner pulled double duty as host and musical guest on Jan. 24, 2015 and drew laughs in a Bachelor parody called Farm Hunk. Shelton mocked The Bachelor’s oft-awkward and interrupted one-on-one chats during the show’s usual cocktail party — and even turned down an eager (and aggressive) Leslie Jones.

Justin Timberlake

“Suit and Tie” singer Justin Timberlake and comedian Jimmy Fallon go together like peanut butter and jelly. The duo seemingly can do no wrong when they collaborate, so it was especially hilarious to watch Timberlake play a hyper, excitable Fallon during a Celebrity Family Feud sketch on Dec. 21, 2013 — while the Tonight Show host stood across from him onstage!

Lindsay Lohan

We’re all still waiting for Lohan’s true comeback, but her March 3, 2012 SNL hosting gig was certainly a good start. Mocking the shamefully addictive Real Housewives reality franchise, Lohan and the SNL ladies took a hit at her former employer and portrayed some of the Disney princesses as the boozy housewives of Bravo. Lohan scored laughs as a snarky Rapunzel, alongside Kristen Wiig’s drunken Cinderella.

Jimmy Fallon

The Tonight Show host and SNL alum has made us laugh every time he’s hosted the sketch show, but the Dec. 21, 2014 Christmas Album bit — wherein the comedian played four different celebrities — is definitely one of the best. From a crooning Alan Rickman, to cocky Pitbull, Fallon pulled off totally laughable, and believable, impressions.

Nicki Minaj

It’s no question that rapper Nicki Minaj has some serious assets — vocally and, ahem, physically — but who knew the “Anaconda” songstress had such comedic chops?! During her musical guest appearance on Dec. 6, 2014, Minaj blew audiences away with her spot-on impression of her friend and fellow diva Beyonce in a hip-hop themed nativity sketch.

Jim Carrey

Alright, alright, alright! Jim Carrey’s version of the serious and stylish Matthew McConaughey Lincoln car commercials had us in stitches. From his spot-on impression of the Oscar winner’s southern drawl, to his booger-rolling mimic of McConaughey’s thumb-fiddling, the Oct. 25, 2014 skit-trio had Carrey at his best.

Chris Rock

It’s no secret that Taylor Swift’s music is popular - her foray into pop, 1989, was the best-selling album of 2014. So when SNL’s faux-medical commercial for Swiftamine, a product that treats nausea related to unexpected love of Swift’s tunes, premiered during the Chris Rock-hosted Nov. 1, 2014 episode, it quickly went viral. “Realizing you love Taylor Swift has become the number one cause of vertigo in adults” - and apparently we can’t just shake it off!

Martin Freeman

Two things we never thought we’d see in the same sentence: Hobbits and The Office! Hobbit franchise star Martin Freeman reprised his role as Bilbo in this hilarious take on quirky comedy The Office’s faux-documentary style of interviews on Dec. 13, 2014 — joining J.R.R. Tolkien’s other Middle Earth characters in the daily plights of cubicle life.

Tina Fey

The 30 Rock star became a global phenomenon after impersonating former Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin — alongside Amy Poehler as Hillary Clinton — on Sept. 13, 2008.

Michael Phelps

The Olympic gold medalist played a nerdy cousin who wears headgear, lifts tiny weights, and plays the saxophone alongside Kristen Wiig on Sept. 13, 2008.

Justin Timberlake

In this digital short that won a Creative Emmy, the singer and Andy Samberg performed an '80s style holiday music video called "Dick in a Box" on Dec. 16, 2006.

Drew Barrymore

The actress stopped by the Weekend Update set to poke fun at the braless dress she wore to the Golden Globe Awards the previous week on Jan. 24, 2006.

Lindsay Lohan

The scandalous star — and former model — portrayed a contestant named Casey with low self-esteem on America's Next Top Model who was vying for the top spot against Rachel Dratch and a one-legged Amy Poehler on May 21, 2005.

Paula Abdul

The American Idol judge made a cameo and critiqued the impersonations of Kenan Thompson (as Randy Jackson), Amy Poehler (as Abdul) and Chris Parnell (as Simon Cowell) before shouting, "Live from New York -- it's Saturday night!" on May 7, 2005.

Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore

During the actor's opening monologue, he addressed the 15-year age difference between him and his then-wife — who made a surprise visit dressed as an old lady — on March 19, 2005.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen

Because the famous twins missed their high school prom to host the show, Will Forte and Jimmy Fallon recreated the dance in their opening monologue on May 15, 2004.

Maya Rudolph

The comedian played recently fired Apprentice contestant Omarosa, who got repeatedly struck in the head by falling objects culminating in a sidewalk garbage can, on Weekend Update on April 3, 2004.

Ben Affleck

In response to the tabloid nickname he earned while dating Jennifer Lopez, the A-lister said he was going to start a T-shirt business with names he'd be called with potential future mates — such as Benyonce and Boprah — on March 13, 2004.

Christina Aguilera

The singer pretended to be Samantha Jones — who admits to her friends, "I'm a dude!" — during a Sex and the City skit on Feb. 21, 2004.

Jessica Simpson

The former Newlywed — she co-hosted the show with then-husband Nick Lachey — dressed up as Britney Spears in an American Idol sketch on Jan. 17, 2004.
