‘Psych’ Cast: Where Are They Now?

Psych-Os for life! Nearly 15 years after its premiere, fans can’t get enough of Psych and its memorable BFFs Shawn Spencer (James Roday) and Burton “Gus” Guster (Dulé Hill).

The USA network dramedy follows Shawn, a fake psychic who is hired to consult on cases as a “psychic detective” for the Santa Barbara Police Department, and his best friend, Gus, who is actually a pharmaceutical sales rep and somehow gets roped into all of Shawn’s cases.

Throughout the series, which ran for eight seasons from 2006 to 2014, the detective duo have to keep up Shawn’s psychic appearances while actually solving crimes. Luckily, the partners are smart, run fast from danger and hilariously get out of trouble with the help of witty code names and elaborate backstories.

The pseudo detectives are assisted by the actual police, consisting of a grumpy detective named Carlton Lassiter (Timothy Omundson), Juliet O’Hara (Maggie Lawson), who is also Shawn’s love interest, and chief Karen Vick (Kirsten Nelson). Shawn’s dad, Henry Spencer (Corbin Bernsen), a retired cop, also steps in to teach him life lessons and bail him out of trouble from time to time.

In 2017, the gang reunited for a TV movie called Psych: The Movie, which resulted in Shawn and Jules finally getting married and sparked a second spinoff film, Psych 2: Lassie Come Home, coming 2020 to NBC’s streaming service Peacock.

“Come on Psych-Os, we’re back,” Hill teased via a Twitter video on June 25, 2019, about the sequel movie. “Lassie’s coming home!” Roday added in the clip.

“It’s everything you love, nothing you don’t. We’re the organic mayonnaise of cable TV,” the A Million Things star continued before Hill yelled his iconic catchphrase, “Wait for it,” teasing a holiday comeback from the pair.

Lawson, on the other hand, gave fans a little more guidance as to what they can expect in the next Psych installment — besides hidden pineapples and crimes to solve.

“The focus goes a little bit like Shawn and Juliet are just good now,” the actress told reporters at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in January 2020 about the next film. “So, there’s no worry, there’s no issue. We still have some of the like, he’s doing his psychic thing and I’m doing my detective thing, but for the most part, we’re just enjoying married life immensely. Yeah, we’re in bliss.”

James Roday

The Texas native played psychic detective Shawn Spencer on the hit crime series. Throughout the show, Shawn and his best friend Gus helped the Santa Barbara Police Department solve crimes using his “gift,” and Shawn continually won over the victims, women and cops in the city. In addition to reprising his role in the TV movie spinoff in 2017, Roday appeared in a few movies since the show’s end in 2014, including Pushing Dead, before landing another hit TV role. In 2018, he began his portrayal of Gary Mendez on ABC’s A Million Little Things.

Dulé Hill

Hill had a successful TV career before Psych; he played Charlie Young on The West Wing, and has continued to thrive since its end. After playing pharmaceutical rep and part-owner of Psych Detective Agency Burton “Gus” Guster for eight seasons, the New Jersey native portrayed Larry Siefert on Ballers from 2015 to 2017 and played Albert Cobb on Doubt in 2017. Hill continued his TV career with a role on USA’s Suits from 2017 to 2019 as Alex Williams. In 2018, the actor married Jazmyn Simon, and in May 2019 they welcomed their first child together.

Timothy Omundson

Omundson played SB Police’s head detective Carlton Lassiter, who didn’t enjoy having to share the spotlight with a “psychic.” He was, however, a softy deep down and frequently worked well with Shawn. Post-Psych, the Missouri native appeared on episodes of Supernatural and Hot in Cleveland before playing King Richard on Galavant for two seasons. He continued his TV work with guest-starring roles on American Housewife and This Is Us. In April 2017, he suffered a massive stroke, which resulted in his small role in the first Psych TV movie. He is set to return for the 2020 follow-up.

Maggie Lawson

Lawson didn’t appear in the pilot for the USA series, but beginning in episode 2, she portrayed officer and detective Juliet O’Hara and eventual love interest of Shawn — although they had their issues over whether or not he was really psychic. The Kentucky native stuck with TV following Psych with a recurring role on Two and a Half Men, followed by Angel From Hell and Netflix’s The Ranch from 2017 to 2018. Lawson appeared on Lethal Weapon and Santa Clarita Diet before starring as Kay on 2020’s Outmatched. She’s also become a Hallmark Channel movie staple with Christmas in Evergreen: Tidings of Joy, The Story of Us and more.

Corbin Bernsen

The L.A. Law alum played Shawn’s ex-cop father, Henry Spencer, who instead of enjoying retirement gets involved with his son’s cases and helps him solve crime — sometimes in the form of childhood flashback lessons. The California native followed up the series with a slew of Hallmark movies including A Time to Dance and Love’s Complicated. In 2019, Bernsen starred in films like Sunrise in Heaven, Swell, The Russian Bride and more before playing Kylie Nevin on The Resident.

Kirsten Nelson

Nelson played the hard-hitting interim-turned-permanent chief Karen Vick, who first hired Shawn and Gus to help the SB Police Department. Although Shawn and Gus got under her skin, she rooted for them and often overlooked all of their wild antics. Nelson added a cameo on NCIS: New Orleans, Bones and This Is Us to her TV credits following the USA series. She also had a recurring role on 2017’s Versus and appeared in four episodes of 2018’s K.C. Undercover.

Sage Brocklebank

The Canada native portrayed the wholesome, nice guy cop Buzz McNab, who couldn’t help but fall for Shawn’s charm and allow him into crime scenes that he otherwise wouldn’t have had access to. Brocklebank has since added the TV movies Heavenly Match, The Irresistible Blueberry Farm and Darrow & Darrow 2 to his acting credits. He also appeared on A Series of Unfortunate Events, Supergirl and Michelle’s for a few episodes.

Liam James

Psych fans remember young Shawn Spencer almost as much as Roday’s adult character. James played him from 2006 to 2010, taking viewers back in time to see how Shawn learned his skills, the arguments he had over cereal treats and building dog houses with his dad and how his friendship with Gus all began. The Canadian actor later starred on The Killing and The Family before playing Billy on Deadly Class from 2018 to 2019.

Kurt Fuller

Psych wouldn’t be as much fun without the quirky coroner Woody, played by Fuller. The California native didn’t join the cast until 2009, but his oddball traits and sneaky ways of slipping Shawn and Gus clues was welcomed by the pineapple-loving fans. Fuller followed up his time on the drama with a role on Manhattan Love Story, Us & Them and The Good Wife. His TV credits also include Kings of Con, The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair, Heathers, Supernatural and Evil.
