Former ‘Bachelor’ and ‘Bachelorette’ Leads: Where Are They Now?

While some roses stand the test of time, others wilt before the Neil Lane engagement ring can be resized.

The Bachelor premiered on ABC in March 2002 with Alex Michel dubbed the world’s most eligible Bachelor. More than 20 women competed for his heart and one of the most successful reality TV franchises was born. The following year, The Bachelorette debuted. Since the show’s initial premiere in 2002, 38 men and women have been named the Bachelor or Bachelorette. (Brad Womack remains the only star to lead the series more than once!)

Scroll through for an update on every Bachelor and Bachelorette lead:

Alex Michel

Alex has kept a low-profile since starring as the very first Bachelor in 2002. After giving his final rose to Amanda Marsh in the finale — and opting not to propose — the pair went their separate ways after several months of dating. He currently resides in New York City, works as a media industry executive and appears to be single.

Aaron Buerge

After popping the question to Helene Eksterowicz during the season 2 finale of The Bachelor in 2002, the twosome called it quits weeks after the last episode aired. Nearly seven years later, Aaron married Angye McIntosh in August 2009. They share a daughter named Aven.

“My wife Angye and our two younger daughters live in Springfield, Missouri. Our oldest daughter lives in Kansas City. This has definitely been a busy year for us!” Aaron tells Us exclusively. “We just finished building our home and merged our family owned bank with Legacy Bank and Trust here in Springfield. We have been incredibly blessed.  I continue to remain out of the ‘spotlight’ and continue to focus on my career and family life. I appreciate and cherish the memories I have from my days on The Bachelor. Subsequently, I have had the opportunity to take part in some things I wouldn’t have gotten to do otherwise.”

Andrew Firestone

Andrew got down on one knee during the season 3 finale of The Bachelor in 2003 and proposed to Jen Schefft. The pair split several months after the finale aired and Andrew went on to marry Ivana Bozilovic in 2008. The couple share three kids. Sixteen years after his season aired, the former ABC star tells Us Weekly exclusively that he’s never been happier. “All is good here. Ivana and I celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary this past summer. Somehow she is still putting up with me! All the kiddo's are doing great, Brooks, 9, Anja, 7, and Shane, 4, keep us busy running around to soccer/ballet/gymnastics/music/etc!” he explains. “Work is going really well and the company I co-founded, StonePark Capital, is completing construction on our 5th hotel in San Luis Obispo, California, to open in January of 2019.”

He adds: “I have bit more grey hair, I work harder for my bikini body, my wife and kids started a rumor that I snore at night ... but I don't think I have been happier in my life.”

Bob Guiney

After appearing on season 1 of The Bachelorette in 2003, Bob went to star as the fourth Bachelor later that year. While he gave Estella Gardinier a promise ring during the finale, they broke up shortly after the show aired. Months later, Bob married All My Children actress Rebecca Budig. After six years of marriage, however, the duo called it quits in 2010. He tied the knot again in November 2016 to Jessica Canyon. The couple welcomed a baby boy in December 2018.

“I’m living in Seattle with my wife and new son Grayson, who is taking up all my time these days, which I love!” Bob tells Us exclusively. “I still do ton of hosting for different live events and I go back and forth to New York twice a month to be on the Today show. I love it – they’ve very supportive of me and I love how much they make so fun of me. Life is gong very well. Thanks to the show, I’ve had such amazing opportunities come my way.”

After the former football pro decided not to propose to Jessica Bowlin during the season 5 finale of The Bachelor in 2004, the pair decided to continue to date. He popped the question with a 3.5 carat diamond ring during the summer of 2019. “I’ve been so enamored, so in love with this woman and it only has grown. I'm head over heels for her,” Jesse told DailyMail at time.

Travis Lane Stork

Travis and winner Sarah Stone decided to date after the season 8 finale of The Bachelor in 2006 instead of getting engaged. Shortly after the season aired, however, they split. The Doctors host married Charlotte Brown in 2012. The twosome called it quits after three years of marriage in 2015.

Travis then started seeing Parris Bell after meeting through a mutual friend in 2016. The twosome tied the knot in August 2019.

"We did a thing yesterday. It was perfect. 8.3.19 ❤️🎉," he captioned a pic from the nuptials via Instagram at the time.

Four months after their nuptials, the newlyweds announced that they are expecting their first child.

“The Stork is dropping off a baby boy in June 2020 and we are pumped! #Storkbaby,” Travis wrote alongside a series of photos of his wife’s baby bump.

Parris shared the same snaps, writing, “We have SO much to be thankful for this holiday season. Baby boy coming in hot in June 2020 and we are so excited and grateful!! Here’s hoping little man gets Travis’s beauty, brains, temperament, and personality, combined with my raw athletic talent #Storkbaby #byebyeabs #jk #cantlosewhatyouneverhad.”

One month after the season 10 finale of The Bachelor aired in 2007, Andrew and Tessa Horst called off their engagement but continued to see each other. Months later, the twosome split for good. Andrew tells Us exclusively that he is still single in 2019 and resides in San Diego. “I’m a commander in the U.S. Navy, a family physician and Director of Medical Readiness for U.S. Pacific Fleet. Life has been great since the show ended. I’ve been focused on my medical career, and service to country,” he tells Us. “I earned my MPH from Johns Hopkins, deployed to Persian Gulf, and am delivering babies, climbing mountains and learning to fly planes.”

Andrew adds that people still “mention the show” to him all the time and he “keeps in touch” with several women from his season. “I still have random people come up to me, often in the strangest places like the DMV! And when I’m delivering their babies,” he quips to Us.

Matt Grant

Matt proposed to Shayne Lamas during season 12 of The Bachelor, also known as The Bachelor: London Calling. The twosome called it quits shortly after the show finished airing in 2008. A decade later, Us broke the news Matt married Rebecca Moring in an intimate ceremony in England in December 2018.

“The heavens opened on the morning of our wedding day and it was just one of those the beautiful crisp winter days. It was blue skies and the sun was so strong that you could really feel it on your skin,” Matt told Us exclusively about their big day. “It lit up this old 13th-century building and it was already going to be beautiful, but just to have the sun light up the building it just made it extra special.”

Jason Mesnick

After popping the question to Melissa Rycroft during the season 13 finale of The Bachelor in 2009, Jason revealed during the After the Final Rose special that he had a change of heart and wanted to be with runner-up Molly Malaney. Jason and Molly went on to date and subsequently got married in February 2010. Their wedding special aired on ABC a week after they tied the knot. The twosome, who currently reside in Seattle, welcomed daughter Riley in 2013. Jason is also father of son Ty from his previous marriage.

Jake Pavelka

Jake proposed to Vienna Girardi at the end of season 14 of The Bachelor. While the duo dated for several months after the show finished airing in March 2010, they split that June amid rumors that they were both unfaithful. In 2018, multiple outlets reported that the pilot was dating a woman named Tiffany.

Ben Flajnik

Ben proposed to Courtney Robertson during the 16th season of The Bachelor. While the duo broke up while the season was airing, they reunited before calling it quits for good in October 2012. Ben, who resides in San Francisco, appears to be single in 2019.

Robertson, for her part, announced she is expecting a child with her fiancé, Humberto Preciado, during an exclusive interview with Us in December 2019.

“There was just a level of comfort and connection that I’ve never felt before. I never believed in that feeling of when you know, you know until I met him,” the Bachelor alum, who is expecting a baby boy, gushed. “Nor have I been with someone that I so clearly wanted to start a family with.”

Sean Lowe

Sean and Catherine Giudici got engaged during the season 17 finale of the dating series in 2013. After Sean competed on Dancing With the Stars and Catherine moved from Seattle to Dallas, the pair exchanged vows live on ABC in front of millions of viewers in January 2014. The couple welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Samuel, in 2016. Catherine gave birth to their second son, Isaiah, in 2018. “It can wear on your nerves. But I think, ‘It’s OK. They’re just kids,’” Sean told Us in June 2018 about the duo’s hectic household. “It’s all going to work out.”

The twosome announced in June 2019 that Catherine is pregnant with their third child. Days before Christmas 2019, Catherine gave birth to their first daughter, Mia. “I’ve always wanted a daddy’s girl and now I’ve got her. Mia is healthy, Mama is doing great, and God is so good!” Sean wrote on December 23 via Instagram.

Juan Pablo Galavis

Juan Pablo opted not to propose to Nikki Ferrell during the season 18 finale of The Bachelor, but the duo continued to see each other for several months in 2014. After they called it quits that October, the former soccer player, who has a daughter from a previous relationship, married Osmariel Villalobos in August 2017.

“The best part [of married life] is having someone you count on, Osmariel has been great in my life, she understands my job and supports it 100 percent,” the former reality star, who owns a talent management company with two friends, tells Us exclusively. “Also she has became a great stepmom for Camila. [I] can’t wait to have two more [children]. Osmariel says she wants three, but not sure if I’m going to be able to please her on that, I will be too old by the time she wants the third one.”

“My daughter is doing great, she is 9 and looking like a 13 year-old-girl, which kind of scares me,” Juan Pablo quips to Us. “She loves singing and dancing, so I think thats what she is going to do when she grows up, and her voice is not that bad. She is also in tennis, so for now letting her do what she likes and then she will take her path."

In December 2018, Us broke the news that Nikki, for her part, called it quits with husband Tyler Vanloo after two years of marriage. However, the twosome sparked reunion rumors in November 2019.

Chris Soules

The farmer proposed to Whitney Bischoff during the season 19 finale of The Bachelor in 2015. Months after the finale aired, the twosome ended their engagement. Chris, who is single and still resides in Iowa, faced legal trouble in April 2017 after he was involved in a car crash that resulted in a man’s death. In November 2018, the former Dancing With the Stars contestant pleaded guilty to a charge related to the incident.

In May 2019, he was ordered to pay $2.5 million in the wrongful death lawsuit. Three months later, news broke that Soules agreed to a two-year suspended prison sentence and two years of probation.

“I feel good where I’m at right now,” he told Us in December 2019. “It’s been not easy on anyone. I’m just happy that I’m able to live another day and work and do my thing and be able to do better things for the people around me.”

Ben attempted to find love again during a brief stint on The Bachelor: Winter Games in 2018, but left early. Ben also cohosts a podcast called “Almost Famous” with fellow Bachelor alum Ashley Iaconetti.

In February 2019, Ben revealed he had a girlfriend named Jessica Clarke. Us broke the news in March 2020 that Ben proposed to Jess in Franklin, Tennessee.

In December 2018, the reality personality, who has had a handful of acting roles in recent months, told Us exclusively that he has “no timeline” for finding a girlfriend. “It’s one of those things — you date, you see what happens,” he explained. “I still hope to meet someone someday. That could be tomorrow, that could be in five years.”

Arie Luyendyk Jr.

Following in Jason Mesnick’s footsteps, Arie proposed to Becca Kufrin during season 22 of The Bachelor, but changed his mind before the season finished airing. The former racecar driver popped the question to runner-up Lauren Burnham during the live After the Final Rose special in March 2018. Months later, Us revealed the couple are expecting their first child. In January 2019, Arie and Lauren told Us exclusively that they are having a baby girl.

Arie and Lauren tied the knot in Hawaii in January 2019. The twosome welcomed their daughter, Alessi, in May 2019. “This was first time she laid eyes on me and I’m forever changed,” Arie gushed on Instagram at the time. “I’m so proud of @laureneburnham. You’re truly incredible and did so good today.”

Colton Underwood

Underwood and Cassie Randolph briefly split during the fantasy suites episode of The Bachelor season 23, but the former NFL player sent home both Tayshia Adams and Hannah Godwin to fight for the speech pathologist’s affection. Randolph and Underwood confirmed during the finale that they are in a relationship and are looking forward to what the future holds.

“I have my best friend. I have my girlfriend. I have my future fiancé [sic]. I have my future wife,” the former Bachelorette season 14 contestant wrote via Intagram in March 2019. “But most importantly I have you. Let’s do this thing they call life... together... forever. I love you @cassierandolph.”

Colton detailed his time on the show in his March 2020 memoir, The First Time. He also revealed at the time that him and Cassie are still working toward an engagement. “We have decided we're not moving in together until we're married. So we have something to look forward to in that step,” he said. “And then, I mean, obviously, she's gotta get through school. I think that's sort of — if you want a timeline like that — we're gonna get through school, we're going to see how all that shakes out.”

Peter Weber

The pilot’s season of the series ended with two breakups. After calling off his engagement to Hannah Ann Sluss while the show was still airing, Peter revealed he still had feelings for Madison Prewett, who left the show during the finale. While Peter and Madison hoped to try to make it work, they confirmed it was over just two days after the March 2020 finale. Less than two weeks later, Peter was spotted out with another one of his contestants: Kelley Flanagan.

Trista, who competed for Alex Michel’s heart on season 1 of The Bachelor, starred as the first Bachelorette in 2003. During the finale, she got engaged to Ryan Sutter and the twosome tied the knot on national television in December 2003. They welcomed their first child, a boy named Max, in July 2007. Meredith accepted a proposal from Ian Mckee during the season 2 finale of The Bachelorette in 2004. A year later, the duo called it quits. Meredith married her high school sweetheart Michael Broady in 2011. Meredith made headlines in 2018 after she alleged an unnamed female masseuse drugged and sexually assaulted her during her time on the ABC series. (The network never commented on the allegations.)

Jen Schefft

After her relationship with Andrew Firestone ended, Jen starred as the third Bachelorette in 2005. While she selected Jerry Ferris during the finale, Jen turned down his proposal and asked him to reconsider popping the question at a later date. During the live After the Final Rose special, however, she revealed the duo had called it quits. Jen went on to marry Joe Waterman in 2009. The pair, who share daughters Mae and Charlotte, reside in Hudson, Ohio. “I grew up outside of Cleveland and my husband is from Cincinnati, so we decided to move home to be closer to family,” Jen, who is a stay-at-home mom, tells Us Weekly exclusively.

“People still come up to me and ask about the show quite a bit, which always surprises me!” she continues. “It's been 15 years since I was on the show, and I can't believe people still recognize me. People are always so nice and it's fun to be a small part of pop culture. … I loved my experience on the show and everything it brought into my life, but I'm a much happier person being out of the public eye. I have two daughters who keep me on my toes and a great husband. Life is good!”

Amy Connell-Donohue
DeAnna Pappas

After taking three years off, The Bachelorette returned to ABC in 2008 and named DeAnna the fourth series lead. While she accepted a proposal from Jesse Csincsak during the finale and planned their wedding for May 2009, they called it quits in November 2008. Years later, DeAnna married Stephen Stagliano, whose brother competed on season 5 of The Bachelorette, in Georgia in 2012. The couple share daughter Addison and son Austin.

Jillian Harris

Jillian and Ed Swiderski got engaged during season 5 of the ABC dating show in 2009. A year later, the twosome announced their breakup in July 2010. Jillian got engaged to her longtime boyfriend, Justin Pasutto, in 2016, and they share two kids: Leo and Annie. “It’s been almost 10 years since I’ve been on the show and so most of the PTSD is gone,” Jillian jokes exclusively to Us. “It was such an incredible experience even if it wasn’t ’successful’ i wouldn’t change it for a thing. I learned so much about myself and relationships that still applies to my life today.”

“Its also hard not to connect my current career situation to the Bachelor. I had a great job prior to going on the show, but I do believe that much of life and career today would be much different if I hadn’t taken that chance. I LOVE love working on the website www.jillianharris.com, I love inspiring others, being in a position to give back to charity and also be in a career where i’m able to be super creative,” she continues. “I also was able to stick in the television industry with my role on Love it Or List it, Too, which is also a dream. Yes, I’ve worked hard and loved hard to get to where i am today both professionally and personally, but I often look back and wonder…. what If? Two beautiful children, a handsome dog, a hunky fiancé and a dream job. Is life perfect? HECK no … but I have a ton to be grateful for and i owe a slice of that to the Bachelor family and experience!”

Ali Fedotowsky

Ali accepted a proposal from Roberto Martinez during season 6 of The Bachelorette in 2010. After more than a year together, they announced their breakup in November 2011. Ali, now a host and Emerald Duv jewelry designer, married radio personality Kevin Manno in 2017. The couple welcomed daughter Molly in 2016 and son Riley in 2018.

“I’d like to think that I would’ve met my husband regardless of the show, but the truth is if I had never gone on The Bachelor and Bachelorette, I’m not sure I would have!” Fedotowsky told Us in 2018. “I met him on another show that I wouldn’t of had the opportunity to host if I hadn’t been on the Bachelorette and now we have a daughter and a son and a beautiful life. I’m even lucky enough that I get to make a living blogging about motherhood, which I’m beyond grateful for. None of this would’ve happened the way it did if I hadn’t gone on that show. I’m beyond grateful for it!”

Ashley Hebert

Ashley and J.P. Rosenbaum got engaged during the season 7 finale of The Bachelorette in 2011. The following year, the twosome tied the knot in December 2012 and their nuptials were documented for a TV special. Ashley gave birth to their first child, a baby boy named Fordham, in September 2014. The pair welcomed their second child, a daughter named Essex, in November 2016. In August 2018, Ashley and J.P. renewed their vows during a trip to Aruba.

Ashley revealed that JP was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare neurological disorder, is a condition in which the body’s immune system attacks the nerves, in December 2019. “He is in treatment and doing well,” the pediatric dentist said at the time. “It may be a long road to full recovery, but we are so grateful to everyone that has helped us get to a speedy diagnosis and treatment.”

JP, for his part, detailed his symptoms during a December hospital stay: “Things you do every day, like picking up this phone, or buttoning buttons, tying shoelaces, putting on deodorant, just can’t do it. Picking up my kids, can’t do it.”

He was discharged on December 9, 2019.

After ending her brief engagement to Brad Womack, Emily was named the eighth Bachelorette in 2012. She accepted a proposal from Jef Holm during the finale, but the twosome ended their relationship several months after the season finished airing. Andi Dorfman

The Georgia-based attorney was named the 10th Bachelorette in 2014. Andi accepted a proposal from Josh Murray during the finale. While the pair moved in together in Atlanta, they announced their split in January 2015. Andi documented her Bachelor/Bachelorette journey in her first book, It’s Not Okay, released in 2016. She released her second book, Single State of Mind, in 2018.

“Life after The Bachelorette has been a wild ride for me. People often ask if the show was good or bad for my life and without hesitation, I always say good,” Andi tells Us exclusively. “I know had it not been for The Bachelorette I wouldn’t be living life in New York City and being able to say that I am an author working on my third book. And as each season goes on, I may feel a little older but feel proud and grateful to have been part of a show that has so many devoted fans and is still beloved by so many people.”

Andi, who is single, adds that she still speaks to “a lot of people from [her] season,” host Chris Harrison and a lot of fellow Bachelorettes. “Between the thirteen of us, we’ve built a nice, supportive community that I didn’t expect but definitely cherish,” she explains. “Fan encounters are interesting because living in New York the vibe is less fanatic and people are too busy or in too much of a hurry to stop you, but my parents, who live in Georgia, still get people that will recognize their last name or recognize them from being on television, so I think in a funny way they are more of the stars than I am.”

Kaitlyn Bristowe

During the season 11 premiere of The Bachelorette, the men met both Kaitlyn and fellow season 19 Bachelor contestant Britt Nilsson. The contestants then voted for Kaitlyn to be the lead for the season. During the finale, both Shawn Booth and Nick Viall got down on one knee, but Kaitlyn accepted a ring from Shawn. The pair moved to Nashville and started their lives together offscreen. Fan speculation that the couple called it quits surfaced in summer 2018, but Kaitlyn, who hosts a podcast titled “Off the Vine,” and Shawn, who opened up a gym in Nashville, did not announce the end of their engagement until November 2018. Due to the fact that the pair were together more than two years, Kaitlyn was the first woman from the franchise who got to keep her Neil Lane engagement ring after the breakup even though she did not marry Shawn.

The former Bachelorette confirmed her relationship with fellow Bachelor Nation star Jason Tartick in January 2019. Months later, the duo — who exchanged “I love yous” in April 2019 — moved in together in Nashville and announced they adopted a dog. They adopted a second pup in December 2019.

JoJo Fletcher

JoJo accepted a proposal from Jordan Rodgers during the season 12 finale of The Bachelorette in 2012. The twosome moved to Dallas together, but as of January 2019, have no concrete wedding plans. In November 2018, JoJo, who recently launched a clothing line, told Us exclusively that she and Jordan would consider having a televised wedding.

“I would never say no, never, but I think it’s very important that, if it was a televised wedding, that it stays true and organic to us,” she explained. “We would never do a wedding that was just filled with a bunch of Bachelor people that we don’t even know, because that’s not us. But, if we could have it the exact way that we’d want it to be, and allow people to see it as well, then I would say yes.”

After Jordan re-proposed in August 2019, the Cash Pad stars told Us that they plan to wed in between May and July of 2020.

Rachel Lindsay

Rachel and Bryan Abasolo got engaged during the season 13 finale of The Bachelorette in 2017. According to Rachel, the pair, who live in Dallas, plan to wed in “early 2019.”

“It’s, like, we’re either going to have this 500 plus wedding that we want, or it’s going to be super small,” she said in December 2018. “So I’m going to hurt a lot of feelings, but I’m going to have the wedding that we want, surrounded by the people we love the most and I want to do it as soon as possible. I don’t want to put off a wedding because I’m planning something big for everybody else.”

The twosome ultimately tied the knot in August 2019 in Mexico.

Becca Kufrin

Becca accepted a proposal from Garret Yrigoyen during the season 14 finale of The Bachelorette in 2018. The couple told Us exclusively in December 2018 that they have no plans to tie the knot yet. “No dates, no months, no venue,” she said. “The only thing that we’ve talked about that we want are food trucks. I want a great taco truck and a ton of Skee-Ball machines so everyone can just play games.”

As for a televised wedding, Becca told Us that the pair were on the fence: “We’ll see, I don’t know. It’s weird because people saw our entire love story unfold and I think that’s something that they feel they would want to take part in, so who knows? I think we’ll cross that bridge when it comes. I’d be happy if we decided to and I’d be happy about it being really private too.”

In August 2019, the pair moved to San Diego together and adopted a Corgi puppy named Miss Minno — who even has her own Instagram page.

Hannah Brown

The former pageant queen, who was the 15th Bachelorette, broke off her engagement to winner Jed Wyatt during the July 2019 finale after learning he had a girlfriend at home. While she briefly rekindled her relationship with runner-up Tyler Cameron, who was spotted leaving her Los Angeles home in August 2019, Hannah shifted her focus to winning Dancing With the Stars in September 2019 when she was named a contestant on season 28.
