After documenting their relationship on Teen Mom 2, David made headlines for homophobic tweets in February 2018. As a result, MTV cut ties with him and he stopped filming the series. “David Eason’s personal comments do not reflect the views of MTV,” a network spokesperson told Us Weekly in a statement at the time. “With six weeks left of production on Teen Mom 2, effective immediately, we are ending our relationship with him.”

Amid fan speculation, David reportedly told fans that Jenelle was “13 weeks” pregnant on a Facebook live video in July 2018. A rep for the MTV star told Us Weekly that “David was definitely being sarcastic,” and that “Jenelle has an IUD birth control in and is 100 percent not pregnant” at the time.

Jenelle defended David amid backlash during the season 8 Teen Mom 2 reunion, which aired in August 2018. “He thinks he shouldn’t have said it the way he did, but he still stands by his views,” Jenelle explained. “He just doesn’t want his kids to grow up and be that way. … He’ll still love them and adore them but he just wouldn’t agree with their lifestyle.”

Jenelle accused David of assault during a 911 call in October 2018. “My husband, he just assaulted me … He pinned me down on the ground in the yard, and I think I heard my f–king collarbone crack and I can’t move my arms,” she said through tears according to audio obtained by Radar Online. She also claimed David “got violent because he was drinking.”

The same day the 911 call was released, Jenelle called the situation “a drunk and dramatic misunderstanding” to E! News. ”Everything is great. We are totally fine … just taking time off social media, time to focus on ourselves and our family."

Just hours after news of the incident broke, the couple documented going out to dinner together. David shared an Instagram Story of Jenelle smiling for the camera. In an Instagram photo, Eason later wrote that they "have never been happier, thanks for asking!"

Jenelle clapped back in December 2018 after rumors surfaced she and David split because they unfollowed each other on Instagram. “Lmafo Married couples have disagreements but that doesn’t mean they are ‘splitting up.’ #RUMORS,” she wrote via her Instagram Story. “My mom isn’t even friends with me on social media.. why does social media determine someone’s life?”

Split rumors began to plague the couple after Jenelle changed her relationship status to "Separated" on Facebook on February 16. She also posted a picture of herself with the caption: "Single AF" with a shrug emoji. However, a source exclusively told Us Weekly, "They are fighting ... but they aren't broken up."

David seemingly proved that the duo were on good terms after split speculation by sharing a racy photo of Jenelle on Instagram. “Now this is what you would call ‘stunning in a bikini’!” he gushed alongside a photo of the MTV star in a thong bathing suit. “My wife is the absolute most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my life.”

The pair’s relationship went south two months later. A source told Us that Evans and Eason were “fighting really badly” and the Read Between the Lines author was “over” the relationship. While she did not speak publicly about the status of her marriage, Evans posted a cryptic note on Facebook that sparked split rumors: “Jenelle Eason is feeling devastated,” it read. The reality TV personality also took to Facebook and posted videos of Ariana Grande’s breakup song “In My Head,” along with the caption, “Speak to me Ari.”

Yet another rough patch in the couple’s tumultuous relationship occurred when Eason shot and killed Evans’ dog Nugget after he claimed it nipped at their daughter, Ensley. The pipe welder admitted to his actions alongside a video of the toddler on Instagram at the time. “I dont give a damn what animal bites my baby on the face,” he wrote. “Whether it be your dog or mine, a dog is a dog and I dont put up with that s—t at all. I’m all about protecting my family, it is my lifes mission. Some people are worth killing or dying for and my family means that much to me.” Evans — whose eldest son, Jace, was on a cruise with her mom at the time — briefly left the couple’s farm with Ensley and her other son, Kaiser, only to return homedays later. Though the reality star told Us she was considering divorce after Eason's actions, she later revealed to Us that she is “working to fix my marriage as well and moving forward.”

MTV cut all ties with Evans shortly after her husband killed the French bulldog. “David has been here for me since the news broke, he told me to not worry about it and to stay positive,” Evans told Us at the time. The couple also lost custody of their three children after the dog’s controversial death.

On July 2, Jenelle opened up to Us Weekly about recently calling 911 on her mother, Barbara, claiming that she heard from Jace that Barbara had locked Ensley in a bedroom.

The following day, the former reality star regained custody of her children, telling Us that she was “ecstatic” about the development and “excited to be moving forward and continuing to show America I’m a good parent.” (The couple lost custody in May after David shot and killed the family dog.) Jenelle later revealed she was planning on getting full custody of Jace.

In an Instagram Q&A on July 8, Evans gave an update on her relationship following the dog incident. When a fan asked if it was a hard decision for her to stay with Eason, she responded, "Honestly yes, we were on bad terms for almost a week. Didn’t talk much. He knows how upset it made me. Now that we are getting over this incident, our relationship has got a lot stronger. David has completed anger management as well.”

The former MTV personality announced her split from Eason on October 31 after two years of marriage. “The kids and I have moved away from David. Nobody gets into a marriage expecting it to end but I know thats what is best for me, and for my kids. Today I’ve filed papers to start that process,” she wrote on Instagram. “I appreciate the support from everybody who has asked how I am. Me and the kids are doing great.
